Facial/Cosmetic acupuncture has been used as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Eastern countries for thousands of years to restore, promote and maintain positive health and beauty. Many people are increasingly choosing facial acupuncture as a method of cosmetic enhancement and wellbeing. Facial acupuncture is a safe, natural alternative to surgical procedures and fillers. Facial acupuncture treatment is very low risk because the needling is so superficial. Needles are single-use, sterile and disposable, and the stringent hygiene practices recommended by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) are observed at all times to ensure safety.
To train as a Facial/Cosmetic acupuncturist it is a requirement to be a fully qualified acupuncturist and have completed 3 years training and graduated from an accredited acupuncture college. I studied at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York for 3 years graduating in 2007 with a post graduate diploma in Acupuncture. I trained in Cosmetic acupuncture in 2008 with Virginia Doran from New York, one of the American pioneers in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture.
Facial/Cosmetic acupuncture is a natural alternative to Botox. Famous celebrities who are reported to have used facial rejuvenation acupuncture are: Angelina Jolie, Sean Connery, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and many more. As featured in the popular 10 Years Younger TV channel 4 series, cosmetic acupuncture or 'beauty acupuncture therapy' improves your appearance naturally.
How it works
Facial/Cosmetic acupuncture works by increasing collagen production, improving muscle tone, and stimulating circulation of blood and lymph to the face. Body points are also used to treat the skin as a whole. Most people see subtle changes immediately, with a more powerful shift after a few sessions.
Not to be administered if you are suffering from an acute outbreak of herpes, flu & colds or are pregnant. Treatment is not suitable for those suffering from diabetes, severe migraines, high blood pressure, or serious health conditions such as cancer, heart conditions and bleeding disorders.
How many treatments will I need?
Studies published in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture showed that: “…of 300 people who received Facial Acupuncture, 90% demonstrated marked results after only their first treatment.”
A course of facial acupuncture treatments is recommended. Patients tend to notice a difference after one or two sessions, however the effects become most noticeable and lasting after six facial acupuncture sessions.
Each person responds differently, depending on the condition of his or her skin and lifestyle prior to facial acupuncture treatment. For best results it is recommended that you have a minimum of six weekly treatments. Following the initial course, top up treatments are recommended every 3 – 6 months.
Treatments are tailor made to individual requirements according to how the individual is aging.
